Stopped in Springfield, IL making our way toward Memphis today, to see some Lincolnalia. Went to the tomb at Oak Ridge Cemetary, where Abe is buried under 10 feet of concrete wrapped in a steel cage below this headstone, underneath an obelisk of 150 feet! Apparently there must be some concern about cryptrobbing? That's a serious concrete blanket...

Outside is this larger-than-life cast, sprinkled in US pennies with a shiny nose from apparent luck-seekers who rub it. He's looking rather melancholy...

Below is the Lincoln house which we only "virtually" toured (via a movie at the visitor's center) due to time constraints. But it is set on a street with other homes of the period and is impressive.
At the visitor's center we were shown a bit of what Springfield would have been like during Lincoln's time as a resident. I found this somewhat surprising. You'd think they'd at least require leashes.

COOKIES!!!

Butcher block table made by father of the groom for the newlyweds.

Arbor my brother-in-law Kevin made for the wedding.

Kevin, father of the bride, looking appropriately befuddled. But look at Kathie's amazing Italian cookies!!!

A few of the 700 cookies I brought with us for my niece's wedding. Just finished decorating them. Tomorrow is the big day!

And, we're off (yes, that is a starting odometer over 100k)! But it is a Toyota...
